The Etobicoke Swim Club (ESWIM) has established one of the premier development programs for age group swimmers in Canada, as evinced by our multiple Provincial and National championship titles over many years. The Club is looking for a General Manager who will uphold this tradition of excellence and achievement and fuel our athletes potential for success.

Position Summary

The General Manager (GM) is a modern sport leader who will oversee all aspects of ESWIMs operations inalignment with ESWIMs long term strategy and strategic vision. In collaboration with our Head Coach and under the supervision of the President of our Board of Directors, the GM is accountable for sponsorship, member relationships, competition, community engagement, public relations, fundraising, city relationships and media communications.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for organizational planning and setting of Club priorities, ensuring that activities and competitions meet the needs of our members and comply with Swim Ontario/Canada policies and practices.
  • In concert with the Head Coach, oversees all aspects of competitions, including meet management, sponsorship, revenue generation, and staffing/officials coordination.
  • Manage, oversee, and find efficiencies across the Clubs administrative operations, procedures, technology, and policies.
  • Manage relationships related to operations with key stakeholders including, Swimming Canada, Swim Ontario, the City of Toronto and various service providers.
  • Lead the development and reconciliation of annual budgets (Competitive Club, Academy Program, summer/march break programming). Ensure that projected revenues and expenditures align with the strategic plan. Serve as the primary resource in the creation of 3 and 5-year financial plans.
  • Provide leadership in the vision, values, and direction inherent in the high performance and competitive structures that includes the development of strong program leadership, dynamic and high-quality programs and services where staff, coaches, athletes and teams are adequately motivated and supported in their pursuit of excellence.
  • Develop, oversee, and ensure compliance to policies and procedures related to Codes of Conduct, Travel, Anti-Doping, Eligibility, etc. This responsibility involves the development and implementation of information and training activities promoting compliance using a risk management approach.
  • Provide leadership and direction to one full-time administrative staff member.
  • Partner with the Head Coach to develop and implement human resources policies and bestpractices. This includes the recruitment, training, development, and performance management of full and part-time employees.
  • Continually evaluate external conditions regarding amateur sport to ensure ESWIM remains at the forefront national and internationally, and to optimize the Clubs limited financial and human resources.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations.
  • Represent the Clubs operations at specific ESWIM Board and Swim Ontario/Canada meetings

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

  • Post-secondary education focused on amateur sports/leadership (or minimum of 7 years ofprogressive leadership business experience in a top-flight sports organization).
  • Previous management experience leading high-performing teams within the not-for-profit sector.
  • Strong financial acumen.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a robust commitment to customer service, and an ability to lead with courage, and empathy.
  • Experience managing and motivating a team through change
  • Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, goal setting, and change management.
  • Tact, diplomacy, and political astuteness.
  • Ability to handle matters of a highly confidential and sensitive nature
  • Strong knowledge of Swim Ontario/Swimming Canada operations, policies, and protocols.
  • Exceptional communication skills with an ability to effectively and efficiently foster engagement and build community.
